Rutgers Professors recognized by National Center for Science and Civic Engagement
The following three Rutgers faculty members have been appointed as Senior Fellows of the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement (NCSCE):
- Jeannette Haviland-Jones, Psychology (Co-director of CASA (Consortium for the Assessment of Student Achievement)
- Terry. R. McGuire, Genetics (Co-director of CASA (Consortium for the Assessment of Student Achievement)
- Claire McInerney, SCILS (Director of the Controlled Vocabulary Project)
- Ellen Mappen who ran the Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science, and Engineering at Rutgers University was already a Senior Fellow. Rutgers is the most widely represented institution at the NCSCE.

Fulbright Grants, 2007-2008
- John "Alex" van Schaick graduated in October 2006 with a B.A. in History. He was awarded a Fulbright to study Modern History in Bolivia, where he will be working with the Centro de Investigación y Promoción del Campesinado - Santa Cruz, a Bolivian NGO, researching the struggles for economic and political equality in Lowland Bolivia.
- Ian Page graduated in May 2007 majoring in Economics. This fall he will be in Germany on a Fulbright Scholarship teaching English as a foreign language. Ian hopes to start up a Model United Nations Club which will assist the students with their English language skills, public speaking, and knowledge of international politics.
- Diana Marmur graduated in May 2007 with a double major in Economics and Political Science. She was awarded a Fulbright to Spain to teach English as a foreign language. Diana's goal is to work with the students on a youth activism project, showing students how global problems can be broken down to local issues that they can address in their school or community.
- Viktoria Lazar graduated in January 2007 with a double major in French and Classics. In mid-September Viki leaves for France on a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English as a foreign language. She plans to utilize her theater experience in the classroom by encouraging students to perform scenes from English-language plays. Her approach is intended to strengthen language skills, build community, and provide cultural education.
James Madison Memorial Fellowship, 2007-2008
- Maya Afek was awarded a 2007 James Madison Memorial Fellowship. She graduated from Rutgers College in May 2007 with a B.A. in History and is expected to graduate with her Masters and Teacher Certification in Social Studies Education from the Rutgers GSE this May, 2008.
Goldwater Scholarships, 2006-2007
- Sarin S. Kadakia graduates in May 2009 majoring in Biological Sciences. He was awarded a 2007 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship to be used toward his undergraduate education.
- Holley Moeller graduates in May 2008 with a double major in Chemistry and Biology. She was awarded a 2007 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships to be used towards her undergraduate education.
- Michael Hayoun received an honorable mention from the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence Education Foundation.
Goldwater Scholarships, 2005-2006
- Betty Kong graduated in May 2007 with a double major in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry and Chemistry. She was awarded a Barry M.
Goldwater Scholarship in 2006 to complete her undergraduate education at Rutgers. She is currently pursuing her MD/PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Northwestern University.
- Karl J. Suabedissen will graduate in May 2008 with major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. He was awarded a 2006 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship to be used toward his undergradute education. Following his graduate from Rutgers, he intends to pursue a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, and his career goal is to conduct research at the university level.
- Joseph Wolf graduated in May 2007 with a double major in Astrophysics and Mathematics. He was awarded a 2006 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship to be used toward his undergraduate education.
National Society of Collegiate Scholars, 2005-2006
- Jeffrey C. Moon graduates in May 2008 majoring in Religion. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) honored Jeffrey with a Merit Award scholarship.
